All-new Range Rover launched in India, but comes at a price

What JLR India claims as the world’s finest luxury SUV—the all-new Range Rover—was launched in India on Friday. The ultra-premium SUV comes at an ultra-premium price, though—R1.72 crore, ex-showroom, Delhi. With almost no effective competition at this price point, the new Range Rover has a number of firsts to its credit; for instance, it is the world’s first SUV with a lightweight all-aluminium monocoque body structure, which is 39% lighter than the steel body in the outgoing model. It also has an enhanced all-terrain performance with the introduction of Land Rover’s Terrain Response system. As far as powerplant is concerned, customers have a choice of the 5.0-litre 510PS LR-V8 supercharged petrol engine or the 4.4-litre 339PS SDV8 diesel engine, both which are now paired with eight-speed automatic transmission. The new SUV comes with features such as command driving position that places the driver in an elevated, upright seating position—according to company, it is over 90mm higher than other premium SUVs.
