Allahabad University Vice-Chancellor booked for ‘outraging modesty of woman’
While the complainant is not an office-bearer of any of the students’ wing of the political parties, some of the student leaders, including the district president of Samajwadi Chhatra Sabha, maintained that they supported the complainant.
Allahabad Senior Superintendent of Police Mohit Agrawal said, “A case has been registered under sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 354 (outraging modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code at Colonelganj police station on the complaint of Imran Ansari, a university student. The allegations will be investigated as per norms.”
It has been alleged in the complaint that, on January 17, when the students of Arabian and Persian Studies Department were protesting outside the V-C’s office, the latter hit them and also pushed some female students. The complainant, however, has not specified which woman was allegedly misbehaved with by the V-C.
Agrawal added that the students have lodged the complaint after an FIR was registered against Imran, Mohammad Ghulam and 40 other unidentified students for manhandling the V-C on January 17.
