All our unions and members are aware that from the Workers Parliament - National Trade Union Convention organised jointly by all the Central Trade Unions - BMS, INTUC, AITUC, HMS, CITU, AIUTUC, TUCC, AICCTU, UTUC, LPF, SEWA - the call has been given for nationwide General Strike on 20th and 21st February, 2013 against the Governments anti-people, anti-labour policies. Day by day the attacks are increasing and the miseries of the common people and working masses are multiplying. On the one hand, prices go up unabated but the Government is failing to control inflation. On the other hand, recession has gripped the economy resulting in slow down in the economy. Government is attributing the increase in food prices to higher consumption of food by people but in reality the number of people below poverty is increasing. The Government is unmindful and is busy in going ahead with their neo-liberal economic policies. Subsidies to the poor are being withdrawn but foreign direct investments are being encouraged. Profit greedy corporate houses are being encouraged but the Government has no time to attend to the problems of the farm sector which is in crisis. Capitalists are bailed out but workers who are most affected by the economic crisis are ignored. Hence people and workers are hit severely. We have to hit back with our unity and militancy. Hence, we welcome the growing unity amongst the central trade unions and their united struggles.
