



Pune, June 17: Airtel launched two-way international roaming and GPRS for prepaid customers in the Maharshtra and Goa circles. The service was only available for post-paid subscribers earlier.
Among the 16 Bharti circles, Maharashtra and Goa are the first to have GPRS, MMS and the masala services for the prepaid segment.
Christopher Tobit, COO, Airtel, Maharashtra and Goa circles, said the company was hoping to convert about 15 to 20 per cent of its existing subscribers to GPRS service.
By end of March 2004, Airtel had a subscriber base of 3.5 lakh in the circle. And 75 per cent of these are in the prepaid segment.
Airtel has tied up wiht Nokia for GPRS handsets where the subscriber gets an Airtel prepaid SIM Card free.
The new services will be offered free during the trial period which lasts till July 31. There are plans to charge a flat rate for GPRS service while MMS and Masala tariff would depend on the downloads.
For the the two-way international roaming for prepaid customers, Airtel has tied up with 100 operators in 60 countries for offering this service.
