Airfares quoting at up to 146% premium
The average domestic fares during the long weekend are up by around 25 per cent across sectors.
Industry insiders say that the fares are high mainly on metro routes, and leisure destinations like Goa, Kerala, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Jammu, Srinagar and Port Blair. Metro routes have seen an increase as many travellers visit family and friends during such long weekends.
“Due to the long weekend, the average domestic fares are around 25 per cent higher. They are expected to rise further, as we approach the weekend,” said Keyur Joshi, co-founder and chief operating officer at Makemytrip.com, India’s largest online travel portal.
Joshi added that the hotel rates have also increased by around 15 per cent during the period. “There are various places like the hill stations in northern India and places like Matheran near Mumbai, where people reach by road but
book hotels for their stay,” he added.
