The 109 people on board an AirAsia flight from Malaysia had a lucky escape today when the budget carrier's aircraft skidded off the runway upon landing at the Brunei International Airport.

The Airbus A320 was carrying 102 passengers and a seven-member crew from Kuala Lumpur to Bandar Seri Begawan, the airline said in a statement.

"All passengers and crew on board disembarked safely, and there are no injuries reported for this incident," it said.

The needs of all passengers aboard flight AK278 were being attended to by the ground services personnel, it added.

AirAsia, Asia's biggest budget carrier, said the cause of the accident is being looked into. "Our team is working with the relevant authorities to identify the root cause of this incident."

Malaysia is yet to come out of the grief of the disappearance of MH370, which mysteriously vanished on March 8 and is believed to have crashed in southern Indian Ocean.

The Malaysian Airlines' Boeing 777 plane had 239 people on board of which five were Indians.

An extensive multi-national search is underway to find the wreckage. But no success has been achieved so far.
