A suspended Air India traffic supervisor and a travel agent have been sentenced to two years rigorous imprisonment by a Delhi court for duping the airlines of over Rs 35 lakh by forging and refunding tickets in a two-decade-old case.

Special CBI judge V K Maheshwari also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 each on the suspended Air India employee Arun Kumar Maurya and agent S K Khosla after holding them guilty under Section 420 (cheating), 467 (forgery) and others of the IPC and under various provisions of the Prevention of the Corruption Act.

The court noted that Maurya in association with Khosla cheated Air India and caused a loss of Rs 35.46 lakh by forging documents for the purpose of causing pecuniary damages to the Air India in 1989.

The CBI had filed chargesheet against them in April 1992.

The court had framed various charges against the accused in February, 1998.

According to the probe agency, the accused forged as many as 13 air-tickets and refunded those tickets after upgrading the class from lower to higher category.
