AIIMS-linked quack molests woman, dupes foreigners of lakhs

A molestation complaint led to the arrest of a man impersonating as Medical Superintendent, MBBS (Orthopaedics) from AIIMS, who lured many people, most of them foreign tourists, with the promise of good treatment and duped them of lakhs of rupees.

According to police, the accused, identified as R K Gupta, failed the final examination for a degree in Orthopaedics at AIIMS in 2001. He left the campus with a promise — he would return as a doctor.

The tools of his trade were authentic-looking visiting cards and stamps of ‘Dr R K Gupta, Orthopaedic Surgeon (AIIMS). He would tell people that he also ran a healthcare NGO called Holistic Healthcare Pvt Ltd, police said.

Additional DCP (Southeast) Gaurav Sharma said: “He targeted foreign tourists suffering from chronic diseases and told them that he would facilitate treatment for them at AIIMS. He took lakhs of rupees from them for this purpose.”

Police said they found out about Gupta’s racket after a 20-year-old woman, employed as an executive assistant with his company, alleged that Gupta molested her. The woman told police that Gupta hired her to assist him with administrative work and took her to Jaipur for a business trip.
