New Delhi: Air India employees on Monday called off their proposed strike on Tuesday after the management decided to pay the June salary of employees in Grade I to Grade IX by July 3. "There will be no strike tomorrow. The management showed their seriousness over the issue and has decided to pay salaries to about 70 per cent of our workers," V J Deka, Regional General Secretary Aviation Industry Employees Guild, said.

Employees under Grade I to Grade IX, who include check-in staff, baggage handlers etc, comprise 70 per cent of unionised workforce. Air India employees in the grades of 1-IX, Indian Airlines staffers in the grades of I, II. III and VI and senior aircraft technicians in Indian Airlines would get their salaries by July 3, Indian Airlines Technicians Association President M S Kulkarni said in Mumbai.

The decision by the unions to call off their 'no pay, no work' agitation came after management team, led by Air India CMD Arvind Jadhav, held a day-long meeting with union representatives in Mumbai today. The meeting followed several rounds of negotiations last week. The three unions AIEG, Air Corporation Employees Union and Indian Aircraft Technician's Association were protesting the management's decision to defer payment of salaries by 15 days.

Under the settlement reached today, the employees from Grade I to Grade IX check-in staff, baggage handlers, security assistants and guards would get their salaries by July 3, Deka said. For the supervisor categories and beyond (Grade

10-25), another round of meeting would be held on July 4, Deka said. About 24,000 Air India employees, belonging to the three unions, were protesting the management's decision to defer the payments of their June salaries by a fortnight.

The employees organised mass meetings at the airline offices across the country on June 19. From June 22 to June 25, they wore black badges and on June 26 they staged sit-ins across the country. The unions had decided that if the airline management fails to give them salaries on June 30, they would boycott their work by adopting 'no pay, no work' policy.

Is not because of ISI or Pakistan sponsored terrorism. It is because Congress party sponsored terrorism in India and because of late Indira Gandhi's flirt with socialism. This airline became a employment bureau instead of a commercial organization if going by the ratio of number of employees to aircraft. The sojourns of our leaders abroad caused AI to provide the aircrafts and sacrifice revenue even on profitable routes. How could the master be annoyed? Air India sometimes had to remove an aircraft from scheduled departure at 11th hour to accommodate travel of a VIP, thereby paying huge compensation to the passengers. The Congress party has not only done this to Air India – Remove “AIR” India follows.

» Gov. should spent 10,000 crore bailout package to VRS and sell this white elephant

I think gov. should spent that 10,000 crore bailout package to VRS of AI employees. and they;ve to sell this white Babudom white elephant to some respectable private company pref. may be Tata's or i dont find any one (may be reliance will hold good tag? i am not sure). During selling, gov. should give VRS to 85% of employees and remaining 15% should move back to central gov. other branches, so that private company who's going to buy AI can recruit fresh band of new employees and rename AI to New Air India, so that all NRI's and indian travellers will get some fresh breeze of interest to travel in New Air India. If not whatever spent on this white elephant will not get back even single penny. If Manmohan reads papers every day or these blogs, he can sense the anger against AI, almost 99.9% of readers against of AI, and they're not willing to travel AI any more, except if they dont find tickets or if they dont have any other options. So why should gov. waste another 10,000 crore and aga

This embaressment of an airline should be shut down and all its assets sold. There are enough private airline that provide superior service with lower prices. The only thing that keeping AI alive does is continue transferring the tax payers hard earned money into the bank accounts of these inept airline employees and freeloading government official.Jeff

Air India once the most popular and well deserved Maharaja name is now just like a cheap thirdclass bogey. It is overstaffed and rudeness the language of the day. what a pity that neither the staff nor union as well managment can manage the service. Is the managment not aware that due to indispline in all the ranks 80% of foreign travel is done by foreign lines and only illiterate first time travelers or labour class working in Gulf use the line. What a pity like everything in Indioa under the government has gone to dogs.
