SummaryThe apex court’s stay order Wednesday granted relief from demolition until May 5, 2014.

With the Supreme Court scheduled to hear the case on November 19, Campa Cola residents’ core committee is working with architects and legal experts to come up with a permanent solution to save their homes.

The apex court’s stay order Wednesday granted relief from demolition until May 5, 2014.

A core committee member said, “We are examining legal options and trying to work out multiple solutions to put forth at the SC hearing. We hope to find a solution that will be acceptable to both residents and the BMC.”

The seven buildings in the compound comprise 35 illegal floors, spread over 7,916 sq m, that are in violation of the permissible Floor Space Index (FSI) limit. The residents are examining legal options to compensate for the excess FSI used.

Another committee member said, “We are considering acquiring extra land from an adjoining plot so that our FSI limit can be increased.” The Campa Cola compound is spread over nearly 18,000 sq m. The seven apartments take up roughly 13,000 sq m while the rest houses a defunct factory in the possession of Krishna Developers.

Adjoining the compound is another plot that houses buildings constructed under Slum Rehabilitation Authority scheme.
