Chandigarh: Considering the need for modernisation, various companies in the agriculture business are coming forward with latest techniques and products for the farmers. Displaying an array of products at CII Agrotech 2008, these companies are also creating awareness amongst the farmers through Kisan Goshthis and conferences.
Talking to FE, Rahul Mirchandani, executive director, Aries Agro and vice chairman (National), CII young Indians said, “We have recently launched SMS-based advisory services for the farmers. These include weather alerts and prices of major agriculture commodities and crop advisory services.”
The CII Young Indian Farmers Network, which is supported by Aries Agro, has grown to 5,300 members and aims to rope in 10,000 members by March 2009. “The next step towards technology improvement will be to link all farmers via Internet which will further facilitate their communication with each other as well,” added Rahul. The tractor manufacturers are coming up with new products like bio-diesel tractor, CNG tractor and other fuel efficient models.
