Afzal Guru execution will negatively impact youth psyche in J-K: Omar
In a TV interview to a news channel, NDTV, JK Chief Minister Omar Abdullah feared that the Afzal Guru hanging would have negative impact on youth pysche in J-K. Hitting out at the UPA govt, Omar said that the govt would have to prove that the execution wasn't selective. "Govt would have to convince the world that Afzal's execution wasn't selective".
"There is generation of young Kashmiri people who feel alienated and victimised and now it is up to the govt to answer", added Omar.
Omar said that Afzal's hanging didn't come as surprise, as they were anticipating trouble. "After the execution of 26/11 lone survivor Ajmal Kasab, we were mentally prepared that Guru would be hanged sooner or later, therefore security agencies were already ready".
Questioning the silence of right wing opposition on the death sentence of Rajiv Gandhi or Beant Singh's killers, Omar asked, "Why are not the parties blubbering on the issue? If attack on the parliament is an attack on the democracy, then Afzal Guru wasn't the only one who did it, there were others too who are already on death row for a longer time".
"You don't just hang somebody to satisfy the 'collective conscience' of the society", Omar.
When asked about the state govt's role in the execution, Omar Abdullah said that they were not aware about it till Friday evening.
"I was told that 'all legal options were exhausted' and state govt wasn't the medium of execution at all".
