After meta courses, DU to offer research programmes
Funded by the Union Human Resource Development Ministry, a design innovation centre will come up in the university. Four such institutes will be set up in IIT-Delhi, IIT-Bombay, IIT-Guwahati and IISC Bangalore.
The DU centre will have digital fabrication, media and graphics, and modelling and stimulation laboratories. These labs will focus on developing computer-aided design, graphic image development and concept generation in areas such as advertising, urban infrastructure, electronics and mass communication.
After signing a memorandum of understanding with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), the university will soon get a centre for excellence under the Cluster Innovation Centre.
“A major component of the centre for excellence will be that DRDO scientist could become adjunct faculty at the university. They will be able to become sole supervisors of MPhil and PhD students,” Madan Chaturvedi, director of the Cluster Innovation Centre, said
A third research facility, called Centre for Cryosphere studies, will receive funding from the Ministry of Earth Sciences.
While a major component of its courses, BTech in Innovation and IT, BTech in Humanities; and the meta university’s Masters in Mathematics Education is related to innovation projects, the setting up of these three centres will be a step forward in terms of the research undertaken by CIC.
