Aerocity project in focus for decongestion plan
Engineering consultancy firm RITES will take into consideration projects that will be completed by 2021 for its report on smooth movement of traffic on the Outer Ring Road.
The Delhi government wants to make long-term plans for traffic decongestion and RITES to will include the upcoming Aerocity project, near Terminal 3 of Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) in its report.
In October last year, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit had issued directions to Public Works Department (PWD), following which the consultant was asked to help formulate a long-term plan for traffic management.
“Aerocity is an important upcoming project in Delhi and its impact on future traffic flow needs to be taken into consideration as part of our plan to decongest Outer Ring Road,” a PWD official said.
“All such future projects and their impact need to be studied in a holistic manner as part of the RITES scenario building report. We have also taken into consideration the future mass transport proposals like BRT and Metro, apart from regional road network improvement schemes,” the official said.
According to the report, the study area is IIT to NH-8 junction on the Outer Ring Road, which has the Ring Road in the north, Mehrauli-Mahipalpur Road in the south, Aurobindo Marg in the east and NH-8 in the west.
