Abu Dhabi, the largest of the seven emirates comprising UAE, is expecting a 30 per cent increase in Indian arrivals this year by hardselling its business and leisure destination proposition.
"We expect not less then 30 per cent increase in Indian arrivals in 2013. In 2012, over 125 thousand visitors from India visited Abu Dhabi," Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA) Abu Dhabi International Promotions Manager Mubarak Rashed Al Nuaimi said.
This will be done by focussing on the leisure and meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) segments, he added.
Al Nuaimi was speaking on sidelines of the opening of destination promotion office in India that aims to tap the high potential Indian market.
In 2012, over 125,000 visitors from India stayed in the hotels and hotel apartments in Abu Dhabi accounting for 496,581 guest nights.
"Should growth trends for the UK and India continue as they have been for the past twelve months, there is every likelihood that India will be Abu Dhabi's largest overseas source market for hotel guests in 2014," Al Nuaimi said.
There is no doubt that India will play a key role in assisting Abu Dhabi attain it's target of 2.5 million hotel guests in 2013, he added.
"You can gauge our aspirations of the market by the fact that we are launching our first international road show for 2013 and we chose to have it in India," Al Nuaimi said.
The road show is starting from today in New Delhi and will be followed in Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Bangalore and Chennai, TCA Abu Dhabi Country Manager India Bejan Dinshaw said.
Apart from the road shows, TCA Abu Dhabi also plans to launch media and advertisement campaigns in India to promote Abu Dhabi as a preferred tourist destination.
