AAI gives in-principle nod to Haryana’s proposed cargo airport

In a boost to Haryana government’s plan to set up a cargo airport in the NCR sub-region, Airports Authority of India (AAI) has conveyed its in-principle consent to the project site.

The approval was given after carrying out preliminary site visit and pre-feasibility study, Haryana chief secretary PK Chaudhery said here on Saturday.

The application was filed with the Union ministry of civil aviation for site clearance and the defence ministry has issued the requisite ‘no objection certificate’ (NOC) and the case is now being processed by it, he said.

The railways ministry is developing a dedicated freight corridor between Delhi and Mumbai covering a length of 1,483 kilometres covering six states.

The Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor Sub-Region in Haryana covers about 29,362 square kilometres, which accounts for about 66.4 per cent of the total area of the state.

Apart from four investment regions at Manesar-Bawal and Kundli-Sonipat and industrial regions at Faridabad-Palwal and Rewari-Hissar, early bird projects have also been identified.
