Aadhaar for students: University of Pune yet to appoint nodal officers
The move will help in linking the unique identification number on Aadhaar card with students’ account number thereby making the disbursal of various scholarships and fellowships through direct cash transfer effective.
The varsity’s admission section had recently come out with a list of 164 students, who were asked to contact Fergusson Road branch of a nationalised bank for Aadhaar cards.
“It is compulsory for these students to submit their Aadhaar cards for scholarships. We have not yet appointed any nodal officer, but are coordinating with concerned government authorities engaged in Aadhaar work to speed up the work,” a senior official of the admission section told Newsline.
Apparently, the UGC directive on Aadhaar cards, mandatory for students of affiliated colleges too, was posted on the varsity website after much delay. The UGC had advised each of these colleges to appoint nodal officers to help students.
However several city colleges said they have not appointed nodal officers.
“We are planning to do so shortly. Students are facing different technical difficulties in getting enrolled for Aadhaar card and these can be addressed by appointing dedicated authority,” said SP College principal Dilip Sheth.
