The story is set against the backdrop of 19th Century France. Jean Valjean (Hugh Jackman), a prisoner, is hunted for decades by the policeman Javert (Russell Crowe). When Valjean agrees to care for factory worker Fantine’s (Anne Hathaway) young daughter, Cosette (Amanda Seyfried), their lives change forever.

Working Title Films, which has co-produced Les Misérables with Cameron Mackintosh, is expecting an Oscar nomination for the film. It has earlier got 53 Oscar nominations and six wins.

The buzz:Les Misérables is the motion-picture adaptation of the musical based on Victor Hugo’s epic French novel by the same name, on social and political upheavals in 19th century. The musical has been seen by more than 60 million people in 42 countries, and in 21 languages around the globe, and still breaking box-office records everywhere in its 28th year.
