UPA to launch advt campaign to downplay inflation

Stung by a sharp surge in prices in an election year, the UPA Government will soon unleash an advertisement campaign to prove that consumers in India are not hurt as much as those in other countries by high inflation.
The decision to unveil the media blitzkrieg, involving print and television advertisements, was taken at the meeting of the Committee of Secretaries on July 2, sources said.
The CoS, chaired by Cabinet Secretary K M Chandrasekhar, directed various departments like steel, food, commerce, fertiliser, consumer affairs and industrial policy and promotion to come out with appropriate media insertions and TV commercials.
The media message will give facts and figures comparing the price rise in India with other countries like Pakistan, China, Sri Lanka, Vietnam and Indonesia. Inflation has hit economies in several parts of the world, particularly in Asia. It is as high as 27 per cent in Sri Lanka.
Elections are due both for the Lok Sabha and seven state assemblies in the next 10 months. The Congress has already lost in Karnataka, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Punjab. Price rise was one of the main issues raised by BJP in Karnataka polls.
While the government is hoping for positive response, a secretary in one of the departments was quite sceptical about the move. "How a consumer cares what are prices in other countries. He wants relief. However, the multi-crore campaign will surely help the agencies," he said.

How government can waste our tax money on such ridiculous idea? There will be backlash from people. I will not be surprised if their will be public litigation demanding to those in the government responsible for wasting money on such such advertisements, to pay back. After all its money collected from Aam Aadmi and can not be squandered.

This has to be the most innovative way of tackling inflation by any government, ever, in the history of mankind - a unique program for educating the masses as to the causes of the exceptional price rise. We all know education is power and lack of education is one of the most important factors why India is not able to reduce poverty. And we all know that the inflation hurts poor the most. So logically the best way of fighting inflation is education...!!! We want Sonia Gandhi to get the Nobel peace prize for this, because lower the inflation, lesser would the people be fighting for food security and hence more peace would prevail...Bravo Congress...!! Hail Sonia maata...!!!

If only all governments knew about this radical approach to fight the menace of Inflation - we wouldnt have had global price rise in the first place. Maybe the congress should patent this idea, lest the communal forces hijack it later on and pass it off as their own.

people who have criticised bjp for spending on 'india shine' advertisements, now coming up with an advt 'india prospers' to say that price rise is a global phenomenon, you work 10 hours a day with the same rate, the additional 2 hours you work will stop you from shopping and thus you can control your expenditure. now petrol price is going up every day, within 10 days the oil prices will again go up by 10-30%, you work for another two hours. by the time we leave in one year 24 hours you spent drinking water in offices. In USA, every person is getting $600 extra tax refund (April 15, 2008) to cope with increased gas prices, apart from pay increase. But in India, govt will spend extra money in advertisement to tell them how happy Indians are under UPA. Why did govt buy millions of tons of rotten Australian wheat at double price, which is not even fit for cattle consumption?

Why Congress keep pulling out dead rabbits out of their hats ? The fact is Indian economy is sliding down words fast. Only those countries are suffering hyper inflation where governments have failed, unfortunately India is one of them. If inflation is in other countries then why Indians also have to suffer ? In sympathy ?
