Two CPI(M) MPs from Kerala have criticised Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee for his reluctance to vote alongside BJP during the no-confidence motion on July 22.
Chatterjee's stand that he was unwilling to vote with the BJP is "inappropriate" so long as he continued in the Speaker's office, Varkala Radhakrishnan, a CPI-M Lok Sabha member was quoted by Manorama News on Wednesday night.
Radhakrishnan, former speaker of the Kerala Assembly said, "though Chatterjee was sponsored to the Speaker's post by the Left and the UPA, he was elected to the post with the support of the BJP as well."
Sharing the views of his senior colleague, K Chandran Pillai, a Rajya Sabha member from Kerala said, Chatterjee should not have created a situation, dragging the Speaker's office into controversy.
"The Speaker should have taken an appropriate decision at the right time. This unfortunate situation where his office is being dragged into a controversy should have been avoided," Pillai said.

Somnath does not fit to Speaker post. He said, I am speaker, it is not any political post, but non-partisan. Then, how a non-partisan Speaker say, I will not resign and vote along with the communal forces, BJP? Does it shows impartiality, non-partisan? It is a clear partisan approach against BJP and in favor of Congress. Shame on you Somnath. Everybody loves power, but not solding out all norms of ethics, honesty, morality, truth, and above the dignity of the Speaker's Post.

Mr Vikas, there are a lot of people who have spent their golden years to further the communist cause in India. So, if you are from Kerala and dare to talk like this about Somnath Chatterjee, I strongly suggest hang your head in shame. Kerala line has done immense harm to Indian communist movement, let there be an end to it - once and for all.

Mr Vikas, it seems you know nothing about CPM. Neither do you know the stature of Somnath Chatterjee or Jyoti Basu and their contributions to the Left movement in India. It is due to ignorant and egoistic politicians like Prakash and Brinda Karat who prefer to sermonise about Indian masses from the rarefied environs of St. Stephens that CPM is heading for another split. Praksh has found it difficult to digest his numero uno position in the party. He is fast heading to become another B.T.Randive. The faster CPM gets rid of this pest of a couple the better would it be for the party. Bengal line should once again come to the forefront and remove the pseudo hardliners and followers of the completely confused and opportunistic Kerala line.
» Good stand by Somnath.

Somnathbabu has taken the right decision by choosing to abstain from voting. Loksabha speaker is not a person but an institution which is above party politics. If the speaker were to take the party line always, the credibility of the post would be lost.

I think Kereala CPIM is a bunch of shameless poloticians. Now they are supporting a so-called communal force just to fulfill personal ego of a person who is ignorant about the energy security of the Country as well as modernisation.

Nobody remembers that the speaker is also a human. Now a days can anybody show a person among politicians who is honest to their people/to their country or to themselves.Everyone is wanting a pound of flesh as their share shamelessly. All they want is money or power or both.Nobody has the eligibility to preach ethics to others. If any one is honest it is better for him to commit suicide than to live and witness all these things happening in the country.
