April 21: : Its back to bullock-carts for Corporate India. To beat the truckers’ strike which has entered the eighth day, companies rather than being browbeaten by roadblocks are using a host of innovative means of transportation including bullock-carts, trains, autorickshaws, waterways and courier services.
For example, cement companies in the South like Madras Cements, Chettinad Cements and India Cements are using bullock-carts, tractors and tempos to despatch cement every day. Ditto for fast moving consuming goods major Nestle India which has also resorted to bullock-carts in some parts of the country.
