Each-one-teach-one programme got a boost, thanks to Dell. It recently announced the opening of the fifth Dell Computer Centre at the Salwan Boys School in New Delhi, to provide computer education to underprivileged children.
The centre is equipped with 40 Dell desktop computers and will encourage students to teach/learn from other students. The first centre was launched in Banglore three years back in collaboration with Parkirama Foundation.
Vivek Mathur, site director, Dell (Gurgaon), says, “The most recent Dell Computer Centre in Delhi reaffirms Dell's community outreach initiatives under HUG (Helping U Grow) programme. The launch of this centre is in line with Dell’s commitment to helping children of India from under-served sections acquire skills and education in IT and be part of the digital world.”
The response at the centres in Bangalore, Hyderabad, Gurgaon, Chandigarh and Chennai, says Mathur, has been extremely encouraging.
“It has motivated us to keep undertaking similar projects run by various NGOs who look after the interests of underserved children in the country,” he says.
