Eminent theatre personality and Bollywood actor Mohan Agashe was surprised to see a full house during the closing ceremony of the 7th edition of the Greenwood Spirit Theatre Festival at the GD Birla Savaghar on April 20 as the event coincided with the DLF IPL match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Deccan Chargers.
"I am not only surprised, but impressed too. It proves that days of theatre are not over. The people visiting the Eden Gardens could not enjoy today's function. But, I am sure, the audience here must be cricket lovers," said Agashe.
According to him, both theatre and cricket have much in common. In both the cases, performers act to satisfy others as well as themselves. Agashe was the chief guest of the closing ceremony of the theatre festival sponsord by SK Todi-promoted Srachi group.
He congratulated the Srachi group for its contribution towards theatre for the last seven years. "Like West Bengal, corporates extend their cooperation to theatre in Maharashtra as well. Besides, theatre has been able to retain its glory in both the states. I have come to know that besides Srachi, two mobile telephone companies are also showing interest in theatre. But, more and more companies should follow suit. Look, India has a lot of blue chip companies that can promote theatre. But they do not, as theatre claims devotion of time apart from investment. But, I must say companies can get the necessary mileage from theatre as well."
