For Naresh Gujral, a chartered accountant by qualification and businessman by vocation, chairman of Span India Ltd, joining politics was a natural choice. Son of former prime minister I K Gujral, he is contesting from Jalandhar constituency as a Akali Dal candidate.

Mr Gujral feels that more and more educated people and professionals who have excelled in their respective vocations are entering politics. “This correction was long over due and this will bring in a new change in Indian politics.” He quotes the example of the US. “In the US successful people take off 5-10 years time from their profession or the corporate world and join politics and serve the public. That’s something that is happening here, too.”
