New Delhi: With Indian music maestro A R Rahman scripting history by winning the first Golden Globe award with Slumdog Millionaire which also bagged three other prizes on Monday, film’s actor Irrfan Khan is keeping his fingers crossed for Oscars next month.
The actor, who stars as an inspector in the Mumbai-based rags-to-riches saga hopes that the film will be able to script history at Oscars as well.
“I am happy for Rahman and for the film. I am sure it is going to get some Oscar nomination as well, so we might make history,” Irrfan said.
Rahman, nicknamed Mozart of Madras by Time magazine, became the first Indian to win the Golden Globe award for Best Original Music Score with Jai Ho.
The film also bagged three more prestigious awards for the Best Motion Picture Drama, Best Director award for Danny Boyle and Best Screen Play award for Simon Beaufoy.
It beat the heavyweights like Brad Pitt’s The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Batman film Dark Knight, Frost/Nixon, and political drama Milk to win in the Best Picture category.
“I am exhilarated at this win! It is a moment of great pride for me and for the entire crew that’s worked so hard on this movie,” said Loveleen Tandon, the co-director of the film.
“To have worked with a passionate filmmaker like Danny in itself was pure joy,” added Tondon, who also assisted Boyle with the casting of the film.
