Mumbai: Tata Indicom has tied up with Nokia for launching a mobile gaming package, which will offer users a collection of 1000 games. These games will be supported by Nokia Applic-ation Download Platform, in its first ever deployment of such kind in India.

At a press conference, Tata Teleservices’ president - telecom Amit Bose said that the service will be available free of cost to Tata Indicom subscribers till August 15. “After that, we will charge subscribers on a per download basis with a monthly fee,” he explained.

The international mobile gaming market stands at $540 million and is expected to hit the $2 billion mark in 2006. According to Mr Bose, Japan and Korea account for 64 per cent of the wireless games market across the world.

The arrangement with Nokia is on a revenue sharing basis, however both the companies declined to reveal details of the arrangement. Nokia India’s managing director Sanjeev Sharma said that his company has provided the platform and the arrangement will eventually extend beyond gaming.

“Our focus will be to strengthen our CDMA presence across the country,” he added.

About 25 new games will be released every week by Tata Indicom. Users would be able to download the released mobile games, using the Tata Indicom Gaming Platform. This would be apart from access to over 300 ringtones and 150 wallpapers developed inhouse by Tata Indicom, which will be provided free of cost.
