Bangalore, May 23: The power strapped Karnataka’s much touted Rs 15,000 crore, 4,000 MW ultra mega power project, had hit a snag after the chief minister decided to constitute a committee to go into the merits of the issues raised by a group of environmentalists and political activists opposed to the project.
The project is one among the seven power projects announced by the Union power ministry.
According to state government sources, as per the GO number EN 5 PPC 2006, dated May 22, the government has formed a 13-member committee, that includes five members from state and Central governments, and remaining eight from protesting forums. The government has issued a circular on Tuesday to the committee members directing to submit the report within 15 days to the government. The state government may or may not consider the project based on the report submitted by the committee.
