Buoyed by its growth abroad and at home, Surya Herbal Ltd, part of the Rs 1,200 crore Surya Roshini group, and a fairly new player in the ayurvedic healthcare arena, has decided to go in for a major expansion plan with a fresh investment of Rs 50 crore. The investments are likely to be used in setting up a new plant, Surya Roshni Ltd’s director Mr Vinay Surya told The Financial Express. Among the areas shortlisted by the company for putting up its new facility is Chattisgarh. The company also plans to initiate process of backward integration in Bangalore where it has recently bought about 1,000 acre land, Mr Surya said. Surya already has one ultra modern manufacturing unit in Noida, UP. The company claims to be the first Ayurvedic ISO 9001 certified company. Meanwhile, in another expansion initiative, Surya Herbals now plans to launch a range of herbal cosmetics. The company is already exporting its range of cosmetics to Russia and the US. Comprising of about 80 products, Surya Herbals’ cosmetics range covers areas like skincare; haircare and footcare.
Surya is currently present in ethical and OTC Ayurvedic drug formulations with products in categories like sugar-control, anti-arthritis, anti-stress, anti-asthmatic, laxatives and others. According to Mr Surya, Surya’s top selling product is its sugar control formulation branded X-Diaba, which is currently growing at 5 per cent per annum. Meanwhile, Surya is also renewing its focus on exports given the boom for herbal healthcare products in the global markets. “We see good growth for our products in the overseas market,” Mr Surya said. According to him Surya Herbal’s product formulations have penetrated foreign markets quite well. Surya Herbal brand and its products are being exported to USA, Europe and many other countries.
