India's largest retail chain Subhiksha is likely to launch multiple stores at the same time in Kolkata from the middle of February as it has finalised the roll out plan for the city.
Constrained by 'physical snags', R Subramanian-owned Subhiksha has delayed the roll out plan by at least a year.
Though no one from Subhiksha was available for comment, according to sources, it has zeroed in on mid-February to roll out at least 17 stores here. The group plans to open 100 stores in Kolkata during the first phase.
The retail major, with the bachaat mera adhikar slogan, will be offering 9-10% discount in all of its city outlets. The Kolkata market for food and groceries is estimated at more than Rs 300 crore.
A typical 1,500-2,000 sqft Subhiksha store, which sells 90% of daily household needs, involves an investment of Rs 40-50 lakh. The retail chain is likely to invest more than Rs 50 crore during the first phase. Subhiksha has already set up a warehouse in Garden Reach.
The neighbourhood store, offering pharmaceutical products through its chains, has started making database for people and their medical needs. The detailed database contains information like a patient's requirement and monthly expenditure on medicine, medicine procurement pattern and whether he is covered by medical insurance.
While retail chains like Apollo Pharmacy and Frank Ross already have their presence in Kolkata, Subhiksha will be the first chain to announce discounts. It will also open the 24X7 pharmacy section on select locations.
It has also planned to issue Subhiksham card to patients offering discounts against memberships.
