Chandigarh, Sep 19: As the Information Technology penetrates down to the non-metro cities, companies in north region are going tech-savvy by adopting various solutions specially designed for them. Exploring the huge space in small and medium businesses (SMB), Microsoft has already reached out to over 200 SMBs in the regions of Haryana, Chandigarh, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh.
“Manufacturing companies both small & medium in the Northern region are adopting technology quite fast, and they contribute the maximum i.e 80-85% to our revenue,” Rajesh Kumar, director marketing-SMB, Microsoft Corporation India informed FE.
He further added, “Manufacturing sector is followed by the IT/ITeS segment which has a share of about 10-12% of the SMB business. But in recent times sectors like education and healthcare have also emerged on the IT scene. Cities like Chandigarh, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Baddi, Nalagarh, Panipat etc are catching up with the metros.”
Regional companies like Oceanic Consultants, WWICS, Trident group, Sonalika tractors, Turbo Tools, Kamla Dials & Devices, Dr IT Planet etc have already switched over to Microsoft technology solutions. The recent entrants from the healthcare sector include region based Fortis Hospital, SPS Apollo and Gian Sagar Medical College and Hospital.
A.S Sekhon, principal, Gian Sagar Medical College and Hospital said, “We had a Linux-based solution for file and email services that was unreliable and required constant support. But on migrating to Microsoft solutions the productivity, security and reliability has improved. Now we maintain a centralised data base and infrastructure for managing our network. The campus is spread over 100 acres and we have about 90% of it online. We will soon launch tele-medicine facilities at three centers and latest technology is being deployed to bring the hospital at par with the international standards. “
SMB being a major growth area for Microsoft special products have been launched for these firms ranging from operating systems to ERP solutions. “Since every business passes through three critical stages of growth, we have designed products for each stage. Our products include small business server, windows server for start-ups, exchange server for growing entities and small business edition for the new companies,” shared Kumar.
