New Delhi, Jun 8 : The “revolting” BJP MLAs in Bihar, who wish to remove state deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi from his post, were given a chance articulate their position, as the central leadership of the party held a “secret ballot” for the MLAs here on Sunday. The “poll” was part of the ongoing measures taken by the BJP leadership to to sort out the crisis in its Bihar unit.
Fifty three BJP MLAs and 14 MLCs from Bihar, who were summoned to the National Capital, cast their votes at the party headquarters here. The leadership asked the legislatures whether they are satisfied with the present BJP leadership in the state or not. “We were asked to cast our secret vote and leave the meeting one by one,” Munni Devi, one of the MLAs, said. It is learnt that the counting will take place on Monday and the party high command will also take a decision on the matter at the earliest. As BJP president Rajnath Singh is away from Delhi, the decision taking process could be delayed. A formal decision will be taken only at his presence, sources said.
Sunday’s meetings were attended by senior leaders Sushma Swaraj, Venkaiah Naidu and Vijay Goyal. MLAs in the state unit have been demanding Modi’s removal as deputy chief minister after a recent reshuffle of the Nitish Kumar-led JD(U)-BJP government in the state, in which some of the senior BJP ministers were dropped.
Since then a section of BJP MLAs were camping in the Capital asking the high command to remove Sushil Kumar Modi from the post of deputy chief minister. They had also requested for the secret ballot fearing action against them if he is allowed to continue.
