Chandigarh, Mar 21: The Rural Electrification Corporation (REC) has sanctioned a sum of Rs 55.86 crore to carry out various developmental activities. This will include release of new domestic connections to people living below poverty line(BPL), erecting 11 KV lines and aerial bunched cable, installation of new distribution transformers and distribution transformer meters in the villages of district Panchkula, Ambala, Yamunanagar, Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Jind and Jhajjar under the Rajiv Gandhi Vidhyutikaran Yojna (RGGVY) of Government of India.

Giving details, a spokesman for the Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam said here today that almost 30% of the total sanctioned amount which comes to Rs.16.76 crore would be released by the REC in the first phase shortly.

The Nigam would start implementation of the work and apprise the activities and achievements to the quarters concerned.

He said that 90% of the total sanctioned amount would be financial assistance in the shape of grant to the Nigam as per salient features of the scheme. He said 60,961 new domestic connections would be released to BPL and 1,282 km-long 11 KV lines would be erected. It had also been decided to install 390 distribution transformers of 63 KVA, 2367 of 25 KVA, 2,757 distribution transformer meters and erect 877 km-long aerial bunched cable in the villages concerned to make the power supply system more reliable. The implementation of these works would also give a new look to the distribution system.

The spokesman further stated that the REC had already sanctioned Rs.48.48 crore for district Rohtak, Karnal, Panipat and Sonipat to implement the RGGVY.
