Mumbai, Oct 13: Tata Sons chairman Ratan Tata has been ranked the most influential business person in the Asia- Pacific by Asia Money in its annual poll of 100 most influential people in Asia–Pacific. He has left traditional leaders like Li Ka-Shing, chairman of companies such as Hutchison Whampoa among others, behind at a distant fifth rank. Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani is ranked fourth, up from last year’s rank 8. So, India now has two business leaders in the top-5 slot, according to the poll.
In the elite list of 100 powerful business people of Asia, India’s 14 chosen leaders are second only to China’s 15but the gap is closing. Large and developed economies like Japan (13), Australia (12), Hong Kong (11) and Singapore (8), trail India.
Sebi chairman M Damodaran, ranked 30, is 17 positions up from last year’s 47, “indicating the respect that the Indian capital markets have been receiving globally resulting in large FII flows over the last few years,” a media release said.
The rankings have also seen five new entrants—Deepak Parekh (22) of the HDFC Group and Sunil Mittal (26) of Bharti Enterprises.
