Top industrialist Ratan Tata was conferred a honorary doctorate in science for his extraordinary contribution to the growth of Indian industry and supporting the cause of Science and Technology.
He was conferred with Degree of Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) at the 46th convocation of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) by President Pratibha Patil in suburban Powai.
Speaking on the occasion Patil said, "He (Tata) represents the best traditions of Indian entrepreneurship and innovation.
He is also an example of the growing strength and confidence of our business enterprises to become multi-nationals with a presence across the globe in this new century."
Accepting the degree the Chairman of Tata Sons Limited said, he believed the future of the nation would be driven by technology and hoped people would use it to improve the quality of life of others.
