Chandigarh: Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal on Monday asked the cooperation department to open more agro-service cooperative centers in the state in order to reduce the input cost on farm operations for farmers.
Reviewing the functioning of the cooperation department in a meeting here, Badal asked senior officials of cooperative societies to motivate farmers for utilising the services of these centers which can raise profitability from agriculture operations.
He said this move would help the farmers to save huge expenditure on agricultural implements and tractors and funds saved thus could be optimally spent on other agriculture operations.
Badal was informed in the meeting that so far 358 such agro-service centers had been opened which were offering the services of tractors, laser levelers and rotavetors to the farmers besides 492 new centers would be soon set up after getting clearances from Punjab state farmers’ commission which gave 33% subsidy for this purpose. The CM assured the department that adequate funds would be immediately transferred from rural development fund to the farmers commission for the quick disposal of pending cases of agro-centers.
