Under-seige Australia captain Ricky Ponting has received the backing of the country's cricket administrators amid accusations he encouraged his team to be overly aggressive.

The Australian team have been accused of unsportsmanlike, "boorish" behaviour in its second Test victory over India, while India captain Anil Kumble said he felt that only one team had played the match "in the spirit of the game".

One media commentator has called for Ponting's sacking, while leaders from other sports have questioned the team's attitude.

Cricket Australia (CA), however, said Ponting and the team had their full support.

"The Australian team plays the game tough and uncompromising," said CA Chief Executive James Sutherland.

"Test cricket is what is being played, it is not tiddlywinks.

"I have spoken to Ricky Ponting and made it absolutely clear to him on behalf of the board of Cricket Australia that we do not support that criticism and the support of him as team captain is absolute."

The series descended into acrimony after the second Test when India spinner Harbhajan Singh was found guilty of calling Australia all-rounder Andrew Symonds a "monkey" and banned for three tests. He has appealed the ban.

BCCI temporarily suspended the tour because of the ban and pressured the ICC to drop West Indian umpire Steve Bucknor from standing in the third test in Perth. The ICC have also appointed their chief match referee Ranjan Madugalle to act as a mediator between the two sides before the match in Perth begins on January 16.

Sutherland said he had spoken to Ponting, who was more than willing to meet with India captain Kumble to discuss any problems the two sides might have.

"Ricky is very willing and a number of days ago made an offer to Anil Kumble to get together and talk through their differences of opinion," said Sutherland.

"I'm very confident that will happen."

australains have been bahaving as if ICC is their'Bapki Dukan' This is the result of years of conninvance of ICC and support of ECB. The history goes back to Frank Warrel's day. All non- australian players have been constitnetly insulted and humiliated-but the colured players and especially the players from Indian Subcontinent have been targetted. We should pull out from this tour. and all the contracts of advertisement and bollywood stints of Ugly Australians should be scrapped

What is that Ponting want to meet Anil and discuss. Every body knows that Australian are not trust worthy and thay don't behave as gentlemen. There is no point in talking to them. Depite all these, C A want to back them, this itself an indication that they can stoop to any extent just to win the game.

As Indian born Australians, we were upset that the Indian team was hard done by in the second cricket test in Sydney, for which practically the whole of Australia has criticised Ricky Ponting and his team. But we have just seen on our television screens that people in India are now burning our Australian flag. This is highly deplorable act on the part of very frustrated Cricket fans in India . You will agree with me that what happened in Sydney has nothing to do with our Australian flag. We urge that this should be stopped forthwith and not repeated. ONCE BITTEN TWICE SHY. ALREADY ANIL KUMBLE HAS BEEN BETRAYED BY PONTING NUMBER OF TIMES IN THE LAST TEST MATCH BY HIMSELF INDULGING IN DOING NUMEROUS WRONG APPEALS AND GIVING FALSE STATEMENT ON FLOORED CATCHED. THEIR OBJECTIVE IS TO WIN MATCHES BY ADOPTING WHATEVER MEANS POSSIBLE WHILE POSING TO OUTSIDE WORLD THAT THEY ARE THE MOST SPORTING CRICKETERS. THEY ALWAYS BELIEVE THAT THEY CAN GET AWAY IN ALL CIRCUMSTANCES TERMING THEIR BEHAVIOUR AS PLAYERS WITH HARD CRICKETING ATTITUDE ON THE FIELD. THEY HAVE DELIBRATELY TRIED TO HUMILIATE HARBHAJAN SINGH BECAUSE HE DARED TO REPLY BACK TO SYMONDS IN THEIR OWN COIN KNWING FULLY WELL ABOUT THE SENSITIVITIES OF BRANDING AN INDIANS AS RACIST. THEREFORE UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCE KUMBLE SHOULD AGAIN FALL PREY TO THE SCHEMING RICKY PONTING WHO WOULD DEFINITELY TRY TO WRIGGLE OUT FROM THE HOPELESS SITUATION HE IS IN AND WHICH IS OWN MAKING.
