New Delhi, April 12: The Congress has charged human resource development minister Murali Manohar Joshi as being the “demolition man of educational institutions”. Charging the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government with corrupting the educational system, party spokesperson Anand Sharma said youths and students had been exposed to “feel bad”.
He was responding to Sunday’s cancellation of pre-medical test conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) after it was discovered that entrance exam papers were leaked out. He claimed it was fourth in the series of central entrance examination papers being leaked.
On the stampede incident in Lucknow on Monday, Mr Sharma said that while his party president condoled the death of over 10 women and children in the incident, the Congress wanted the Election Commission to take action against the Bharatiya Janata Party. Senior BJP leader Lalji Tandon was reportedly distributing sarees in Lucknow, Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s constituency, when the mishap occurred.
Charging the party with violation of the model code of conduct, he said, “it is shameful if the country’s Prime Minister is fighting an election in this manner.”
Earlier in the day, Kapil Sibal alleged that the son and son-in-law of union minister Sahib Singh Verma were involved in a scam where good quality E- grade coal was being sold through trading companies on the price of coal rejects.
He alleged that one such transaction resulted in a loss to the tune of Rs 100 crore to the exchequer.
