Ghaziabad, Mar 25 : World’s biggest steel maker Lakshmi N Mittal may be the role model for B-school hopefuls, but he regrets not having an MBA degree in his chequered career.

“The biggest regret of my life is not having an MBA degree,” Mittal said, while addressing the annual convocation of the Institute of Management Technology here.

He wanted to go to a B-school after completing his graduation from St Xavier’s College, Kolkata, but involvement in family business denied him that opportunity.

Asking the future managers to be realistic in their goals, Mittal suggested that only those objectives should be pursued which were achievable.

He said he did not dream of being the biggest steel maker five years back, but achieving small goals and subsequently setting up higher goals led him to his goal.

“Being Indian is a matter of pride and so I still hold an Indian passport,” Mittal said.

He said India was being looked at differently by the world as changes are happening at a fast pace. “India was among the second-fastest growing economy in the world,” he said and pointed out that wherever he went, people enquired about India.

Mittal said there was lack of education among people and they need to understand that industrialisation would benefit them and their family members would get jobs.
