



Mumbai, Feb 27: : Azim Premji, Lakshmi Mittal and the Ambani Brothers feature in the Forbes top 100 list of the World’s Richest People in 2004.
The Forbes list of the World’s Richest People in 2004 features Mr Premji at rank 58, with a networth of $6.7 billion followed by Mr Mittal at rank 62, worth $6.2 billion, and Mukesh D Ambani and Anil D Ambani at rank 65, with a networth of $6 billion.
Mr Mittal from UK has posted the largest growth rate in net worth, which has surged by 182 per cent during the last year from $2.2 billion to $6.2 billion. Mr Mittal’s ranking has improved to 62 in 2004 from 177 last year.
Similarly, the Ambani Brothers have emerged with the second highest growth rate of 114 per cent during the last one year. Their net worth has jumped by $3.2 billion during the year, from $2.8 billion in 2003 to $6 billion. Their ranking for the current year has gone up from 123 last year to 65 in 2004.
As compared with the Forbes list of 2003, which comprises seven entries from India, this year the total number of entries have risen to nine. The new entrants from India in this year’s list are Sunil Mittal from the telecom industry and Anil Agarwal from the mining sector at 186 and 552 ranks, respectively.
The networth of Indians in the Forbes 2004 list amounts to $31.9 billion as compared to $17.4 billion in 2003, an increase of 83 per cent, or $14.5 billion. This is less than the networth of the two people who have made it to the top two ranks in the world, Mr Bill Gates of Microsoft with a networth of $46.6 billion and Mr Warren Buffett of Berkshire Hathaway with $42.9 billion.
