Major load centres like Gurgaon and Faridabad, which face an average power shortage of about 20 lakh units per day during peak hours can expect regular power supply in the future. The state is in for major power spruce up with the Haryana government signing power purchase agreements for 1,724 mw and share purchase agreement for 1,320 mw. Through these agreements, Haryana has assured power supply for the next 25 years, which will start flowing by 2011-12. Since the demand for power has been increasing at an average rate of about 15% for the last several years, a shortfall of around 4,500-5,000 mw is expected by 2012 in the state.
The agreements have been signed with Power Trading Corporation, Adani Power and Hong-Kong based China Light & Power Holdings’ Indian arm-CLP India to supply power at a levelised tariff of Rs 2.86/kwh to Rs 2.94/ kwh.
CLP Power India is the first ever independent power producer for Haryana, that will set up 2 units of 660 mw mega status super critical technology thermal power plant in Jhajjar district.
Speaking to FE, Ashok Lavasa, financial commissioner & principal secretary, power Haryana said, “To meet with this expected shortfall, the Haryana government has signed power purchase agreements (PPA) with two companies but Lanco Infratech, which has to provide us 389 mw, could not sign the agreement on Thursday due to problems in land acquisition in Orissa. Power Trading Corporation (PTC) will supply 300 mw to Haryana through its Power Plant located at Kamalanga in Orissa and Adani will supply 1,424 mw through its Thermal Plant being established at Mundra in Gujarat.”
He further added, “By the end of the 11th Plan we are expecting an addition of about 6,733 mw of power through PPAs and independent power producer (3,433 mw) and commencement of our three major thermal power projects at Yamuna Nagar, Jhajjar and Hisar which will generate about 3,300 mw of electricity. We are also looking for PPAs outside the state for 1,769 mw of power with majority of companies in the public sector.
There are 27 different projects for sourcing power from states like Himachal, J&K, Arunachal Pradesh, Bihar, Bengal, Rajasthan etc.”
The process for acquisition of 1,114 acres of land for CLP India project has been competed in the villages of Khanpur Khurd, Khanpur, Wajidpur and Jharli of Jhajjar district. The balance 107 acres of land will be acquired soon. The linkage...
