Hyderabad, Aug 31: As part of the diversification programme, Nagarjuna Fertilizers and Chemicals Ltd (NFCL) plans to enter manufacture of micro nutrient fertilisers based on the soil and crop requirements besides undertake agriculture related research.

According to director and chief operating officer of the company RS Nanda NFCL is now gearing up to make micro and major nutrient mixed fertilisers, once the government revises its agriculture policy and include micro nutrient fertilisers in the fertiliser control order. As of now, no fertiliser company is allowed to take up the production of micro nutrient mixers as it was not part of the ‘fertiliser control order’.

“We do not know when the government would alter its fertiliser policy, but the company is gearing up to be ever ready for such a requirement,” Mr Nanda told FE. These kind of mixers and formulations would benefit the farmer to improve soil conditions and the productivity, he added.

Though reluctant to elaborate on the project, Mr Nanda said that the company has already working on pilot projects and it can scale up to commercial level within one year. Further, NFCL has sought the shareholders’ approval for including Clause 10 in its ‘Objects clause’ of the Memorandum of Association of the company allowing the company to take up research and development of need based fertilisers with nutrient mixers, formulations etc.

The approval is sought by way of postal ballot prior to the annual general meeting scheduled on September 26. As of now, there is no provision in the ‘fertiliser control order’ (FCO) allowing the fertiliser companies to produce nutrient mixed fertiliser based on the soil and crop requirements.
