Mukesh Ambani bats for greater govt-industry ties
Mukesh Ambani, Reliance Industries CMD, believes that a delivery model for the 21st century requires a dramatic shift in governance and leadership. “There is a need for government and industry to align and move a lot faster, both at the federal and state levels,” Ambani said on Sunday while speaking at the opening plenary session.
“India in the new global reality’ of the World Economic Forum’s India Economic Summit,” Ambani said.
Ambani observed that Indian business had made the transition to creating big business models and had also undergone a change of mindset whereby the leadership was becoming younger. Industry was also working in partnership with government rather than being confrontationist. “People want instant gratification and we need to put down our heads and figure out how to deliver,” Ambani said.
Prithviraj Chavan, chief minister, Maharashtra, said the second phase of reforms must not be delayed. “Some reforms are getting delayed because of some compulsions but our 12th Plan strategy of financial inclusion is the way forward.” Chavan said the western economies had lived beyond their means, making financial crises more frequent.
