Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government on Friday decided to continue ban on the export of molasses outside the state for the second year in succession. Approving the molasses policy for 2009-10, the Cabinet took the decision considering the possible shortage of molasses.

According to the policy, the state government has reserved 30% of the molasses produced by all the sugar mills for country liquor. The total production of the commodity is expected to be pegged at 210 lakh quintals, with the private sector contribution being 143.89 quintals.

The government has also stopped the supply of molasses to the chemical units in Uttarakhand.

The state government also decided to do away with the system of toll tax at various bridges. Barriers were erected at such toll bridges, causing discomfort to commuters and delay transportation of essential commodities to their destinations.

However, the decision would not affect toll bridges on national highways, on highways built on PPP, DBFO (design, built, finance and operate) and BOT (Built, operate and transfer) models.

The government also amended eligibility criteria for allotment of houses under Mahamaya Housing scheme, setting up of six medical and two para-medical colleges on the basis of public-private-partnership (PPP) model and abolition of toll tax.

The condition of being listed in the permanent waiting list of Mahamaya housing scheme prepared on the basis of BPL survey of 2002 had been abolished. “Now, SC and ST applicants who are shelterless or those living in slums area will be benefited under the scheme,” an official spokesman said .The state government will also set up six medical and two para-medical colleges on the basis of public-private-partnership model.

"The six newly constituted medical colleges would be set up in Kannauj, Azamgarh, Jalaun, Ambedkar Nagar, Banda and Saharanpur, while two new para-medical colleges at Jhansi and Saifai will now be run by PPP guidelines issued by the industrial and infrastructure department and social welfare department.
