Miscreants halt output at Kohinoor Steel plant in Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur, Oct 2: Miscreants forced in some 70 to 80 trucks loaded with coal all at once inside the Kohinoor Steel factory on the Kandra-Chowka road, on Wednesday evening, choking the movement of all vehicles inside the plant. This, in turn, affected the company's production badly.

"Around 12 to 13 anti-socials, carrying iron rods and other weapons, forced our security guards to open the gates of the plant and thereafter filled the company's works all at once with some 70-80 coal-laden trucks which were standing in queue on the approach road to the plant," said Kohinoor Steel media spokesperson Avinash Dugar.

When asked about the identity of the miscreants, he said: "It is difficult for us to say anything about their identity; but we got local police's support, who as also some villagers, rushed to the spot and helped us to normalise the situation."

The company, Dugar said, was in the process of lodging an FIR on Thursday with the Chowka police station.

Dugar, who is also the company's general manager (sales & marketing), said it was almost three years now that the company had submitted an application with the Jharkhand government for constructing the 1.5-km approach road to the plant. Its poor shape at present leads to queueing up of coal/iron ore laden trucks outside the plant haphazardly .

"There is no progress regarding the matter, though our MoU (of July 2005) promises that basic infrastructure like road, water and power, apart from specific help for acquisition of land, construction of 1.5-km approach road from the highway to the plant site, allotment of a coal block and iron ore mining leases would be done by the government in lieu of the company's staggered investment of Rs 500 crore," he said.
