Chennai, June 21: Microsoft India plans to ship its products Visual Studio 2005 and SQL Server 2005 to India by the end of 2005. The products were showcased in ‘TechEd 2005’, Microsoft’s annual IT event for developers, server professionals and architects, held in Chennai recently.
Sheila Gulati, director, developer and platform evangelism, said the products had enhanced features. "Visual Studio 2005 takes a holistic look at development. It is an integrated solution, which allows a team to work together. SQL Server 2005 again offers improved security and reliability," she said.
Microsoft is leveraging on the TechEd 2005, being conducted across the country to train Independent Software Vendors (ISV’s) and System Integrators to work with Visual Studio 2005 and SQL Server 2005. Microsoft is hosting the TechED in New Delhi, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Bangalore and Chennai. "TechED is a platform where developers and IT professionals learn and understand existing and future technologies. It is an annual event, however, this time we have a special focus on women in technology," Ms Gulati said. This time, around 600 IT professionals participated in the event in Chennai and across the country around 3,500 professionals are expected to participate.
While speaking about increasing adoption of open source software, Ms Gulati said: "Companies who are willing to make an investment in IT will do so only if they see a value proposition. Microsoft products have a certain value attached and if you look at it even from a purely cost perspective, Microsoft offers different price points for different buyer segments," she said.
