The Cricket Board on Wednesday warned S Sreesanth to mend his ways, failing which the BCCI threatened to take appropriate action against the volatile pacer, who has figured prominently in a number of on-field spats of late.

A key figure in the slap-gate issue, which saw Harbhajan Singh being banned for five one-dayers, Sreesanth was today warned by the Board to behave properly on the field or face consequences.

“The Board is constrained to warn you for your behaviour on the field and in the event you do not improve your behavior, the Board would be constrained to take appropriate decision,” BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah said in the letter.

The Kerala speedster allegedly provoked Harbhajan during the April 25 Indian Premier League match at Mohali after which the off-spinner slapped him.

The IPL authorities subsequently banned Harbhajan from the remainder of the Twenty20 extravaganza and robbed him off his match fees amounting close to Rs three crore.

BCCI held a separate probe in the matter and its Disciplinary Committee today slapped a five-match ban on Harbhajan.

Sreesanth has been notorious for his on-field skirmishes and his volatile temper has often become a woe for his captains.

During India’s South Africa tour, Sreesanth broke into a war dance after hitting Andre Nel for a six, while he featured in a number of on-field altercations with Australian duo of Andrew Symonds and Matthew Hayden.
