The Prime Minister Manmohan Singh recently said that malnutrition is a national shame. But, if we look deeply, malnutrition is not the ‘only’ national shame. The corruption spread nationwide, malnutrition, daily spiralling food inflation, adulteration in edible as well as non-edible items, fake medicines, fake BPL and ration cards, exploding population, dwindling forest cover, difficulty in setting up businesses, red-tapism and so on are the various national shames we have, unfortunately. And unfortunately, we are not doing much to correct these. It’s not that nothing can be done. Perhaps we, as a nation, don’t know how to begin. Well, that’s a case of another national shame!
