: The Jamiat resolution that patriotism does not require the singing of Vande Mataram and that its singing is un-Islamic is not acceptable. First of all, linking any religious sentiment to patriotism is improper and reprehensible in the strongest terms. True nationalism or patriotism is beyond any religion, be it Hinduism or Islam. The controversial Jamiat resolution should be ruled out without second thought. Besides, it is time to put an end to the unethical practice of dragging national pride into unnecessary controversies in the name of religion.
