



: In his timely article (‘Can the valley afford ‘azadi’?’, Aug 20), Rajesh Chakrabarti has raised some pertinent issues in the context of the demand for freedom in Kashmir. The Kashmiri people should learn a lesson from the recent history of Afghanistan, which is still being ruined by the jihadis. Kashmir would be no exception should it follow suit. In fact, terrorism has no religion and the people of Kashmir, too, may face the same situation and become the ultimate losers. It’s time for all Kashmiris to summon the courage to remain with India as any other state, for obvious reasons.

Treatment costs
For the aged, the chief area of concern is the escalating cost of medical treatment (‘No country for old men’, Aug 21). This is an area that demands urgent attention.
