: What authority does the Maharashtra Nav Nirman Sena supremo have to ban the Bachchan family’s films in Mumbai or to order people to boycott the commodities advertised by some of the Bachchans? In making such a call, Raj Thackeray has raised the pitch of linguistic fanaticism to an unprecedented level. Of course, one should be proud of one’s mother tongue. But this does not mean that those speaking other languages are one’s enemies. The Bachchans are from UP and they speak Hindi, so why should Jaya Bachchan have to apologise for launching a Hindi movie in Hindi, instead of Marathi?
